The £5,500 “Epic Gaming Adventure” holiday will take computer console fans to
13 locations in eight countries, each of which has inspired a big
blockbuster game.
The first stop is Edinburgh, home to Rockstar North, the developers
responsible for the Grand Theft Auto, Max Payne and Red Dead Redemption
franchises, as well as the Nineties classic Lemmings. A stop at Loading Bar
in Soho, London, modelled on the gaming cafes of Tokyo, follows, before the
real globetrotting begins.
First up is Thailand. Guests will fly to Phuket before visiting the Ko Tapu
islands, a setting frequented by Lara Croft, the busty protagonist of Tomb
Raider Underworld. A trip to Seoul, the South Korean capital follows. The
city is home to the e-Sports Stadium, where professional gamers do battle
and draw vast crowds.
Next is Tokyo, where a trip to the headquarters of Konami, the developers
behind the Pro Evolution Soccer series, is planned. Guests will also have
the chance to visit the city’s giant gaming arcades, known as Taito
Stations.
The holiday finished with a whistlestop tour of the US. On the itinerary is Los Angeles, where travellers will be taken to see the landmarks that inspired games include L.A. Noire and Grand Theft Auto. The San Francisco suburb of Santa Clare, where the retro game Pong was created by Atari in the Seventies, follows.
Further stops include New York – to visit locations featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 – and Texas (below) – to see landscapes that inspired titles such as Red Dead Redemption and GUN.

“The Epic Gaming Adventure is an all-out celebration of gaming,” said Ailsa
McKnight of Game Retail Ltd, which is organising the package in partnership
with STA Travel. “This ambitious trip will take gamers on a journey through
the rich history of videogame culture [and] take a look at the exciting
developments still to come.”
While it is described as the “first ever video game package”, holidays inspired by movies and television – from Lord of the Ring (New Zealand) to Breaking Bad (Albuquerque, New Mexico) – are far more common.
